FangShi Crucis Mixup Cube is a shape mod puzzle from the LimCube series. It works like a mixup cube: a regular three-layer 3x3 cube whose middle layers can also be turned by 45 degrees. Each face has a cross pattern, which is where the name Crucis comes from. We offer the version with a black body.

How a mixup works

On a classic 3x3 cube, the centers stay on their faces and can never swap places with the edges. On a mixup, once you turn a middle layer by 45 degrees, an edge can move into a center position and a center into an edge position. After a few such moves, the cube no longer looks like a cube with even faces and changes its shape. To solve it, you first need to get the right pieces back into the center and edge positions, and only then finish the cube with the methods you know from the 3x3.

How it differs from other Crucis puzzles

FangShi has several similarly named puzzles in the Crucis series, and they are easy to confuse. The Crucis Cube (3x3 + Skewb) in versions V1-V4 combines a 3x3 mechanism with Skewb-style turns. This model is the Crucis Mixup, and what sets it apart are the 45-degree middle-layer turns. It is also smaller: about 6.5 cm, while the 3x3 + Skewb Crucis puzzles are about 7.2 cm.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve a 3x3 comfortably and are looking for a different kind of challenge than yet another speedcubing cube. The Crucis Mixup Cube is not meant for timed solves, but for relaxed solving. It also makes a great addition to a puzzle collection. If you haven't solved a regular 3x3 cube yet, learn that first, because without it a mixup may discourage you more than it hooks you.
