FangShi mini 6x6 (54.6 mm)

The FangShi mini 6x6 measures just 54.6 mm per edge, roughly the same as a typical 3x3 cube. Each row has 6 pieces, so a single piece is just under 9.1 mm. It is one of the smaller 6x6 cubes you can buy. It is made by FangShi, a brand also known as LimCube. The cube comes in the stickerless bright version, which means the plastic is already coloured and there are no stickers.

What to expect

Let's be clear from the start: this is not a 6x6 speedcubing cube. What makes it interesting is mainly its size. The pieces are small, so precision matters when you turn. Fast, aggressive turning like on larger 6x6 cubes doesn't really suit it. It's better to solve it calmly and with control, making sure the layers are aligned before you turn the next one. If you want to practise 6x6 for time, go for a full-size model, ideally a magnetic one.

The solving principles are the same as for any 6x6: centres first, then edge pairing, and finally solving it like a 3x3. With an even number of layers, you may run into the parity cases known from the 4x4.

Who is it for?

• Collectors who collect mini cubes or unusual versions of well-known puzzles. A miniature 6x6 looks great on the shelf next to a 3x3 of the same size.
• People who can already solve a 6x6 and want to try it in a small format, just for fun.
• Carrying around with you. The cube fits in your pocket and weighs about as much as many 3x3 cubes.

For your first 6x6, it's better to choose a larger model. Bigger pieces are easier to grip, and it's harder to make mistakes while you're learning the method.
