A Skewb, Mixup style

In a regular Skewb, every piece has its fixed place: corners stay corners and centers stay centers. In Mixup puzzles, this division is no longer so simple. Pieces of different types can swap positions, so as you scramble it, the puzzle stops looking like a classic Skewb, and solving it calls for a different way of thinking than standard algorithms. It has the shape of a hexagonal prism, so it looks completely different from a cube-shaped Skewb.

Will knowing how to solve a Skewb help?

Yes. Being able to solve a regular Skewb is a good starting point, because the turns around the corners work the same way here. However, ready-made speedcubing methods won't be enough to solve this puzzle from start to finish. You'll need to work out for yourself how the pieces behave and develop your own sequences. This is a puzzle for unhurried figuring out, not for setting times. It is also not a WCA event.

Who is it for?

The Mixup Skewb Prism is a good choice if you've already mastered the Skewb and other popular puzzles and are now looking for something for your collection or a longer-lasting challenge. It's not suitable as a first puzzle. For a child who is just getting started with cubes, a regular Skewb or a 3x3 cube is a better fit.
