FangShi Simplified Dreidel 3x3x3

FangShi Simplified Dreidel 3x3x3 is a shape mod puzzle built on a classic 3x3 cube. It comes from the LimCube series, in which FangShi releases puzzles outside the official WCA events. The cube turns like a regular 3x3, but you can also rotate its corners. When you do, the cube loses its cubic shape and solving becomes noticeably harder. We stock the version with a white body.

How the Dreidel works

Each corner rotates around an axis running along the cube's diagonal. If you leave the corners in their starting position, the cube behaves like a regular 3x3. Once you start combining corner rotations with normal face turns, the pieces move around and the cube quickly changes shape. So the difficulty depends largely on how thoroughly you scramble it. Knowing a 3x3 method helps, since the whole solution is based on it. However, you will need to add your own approach to positioning the corners.

Simplified vs. full Dreidel

FangShi has also released the full version, the Dreidel 3x3x3, which has more divided corners. In the Simplified version the corners have a simpler design, so there are fewer possible moves and the puzzle is gentler. There are also no very small stickers, which come off more easily on the full Dreidel. The Simplified version is a good first encounter with this design. The full Dreidel offers more scrambling and more of a challenge for those who already have experience with shape mods.

Who is it for?

For people who can solve a 3x3 cube and want to try something unusual, but not the hardest variant right away. The Dreidel also works well as part of a shape mod collection. This is not a cube for speedcubing practice or WCA competitions. If you are only just learning to solve a 3x3, it is better to start with a regular cube.
