FangShi Trefoil Tetrahedron is a shape-shifting tetrahedron puzzle designed by LimCube. At first glance it looks like a Pyraminx, but its mechanism is completely different. It combines Pyraminx cuts with Pyramorphix cuts, so as you turn it, the tetrahedron loses its shape and changes into irregular forms. This version has the Corner-4 Colors scheme: each of the four main corners has a different color. The plastic is stickerless, so there are no stickers to wear off.

What's the challenge?

Each move shifts corners and edges at the same time. After just a few turns the puzzle looks completely different from how it started, and scrambling produces a wide variety of patterns and shapes. The difficulty lies in restoring both the shape and the colors at once. A Pyraminx method won't be enough here; you need to learn how this particular mechanism behaves.

Of the three Trefoil color versions, Corner-4 is considered the easiest. With this scheme, corner orientation isn't visible, and some edges look identical and can swap places. This means fewer pieces have to end up in one specific position. Still, it isn't an easy puzzle, just a gentler introduction to this mechanism.

Corner-4, Face-4 or 12 Colors?

All three versions share the same mechanism and the same shape. They differ only in color layout, and that changes the difficulty level:

• Corner-4 Colors: each corner has a different color. This is the easiest version to start with the Trefoil.
• Face-4 Colors: one color per face, like a classic Pyraminx. This is a medium difficulty level.
• 12 Colors: the most demanding version, as the pieces are distinguished most precisely.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve the Pyraminx, Skewb or other non-standard puzzles and want to try shape-shifting on a tetrahedron. It's also a great pick for collectors, as a scrambled puzzle looks good on the shelf. This is not a speedcubing puzzle and it isn't suitable as a child's first puzzle. Without knowing basic methods, it's easy to get discouraged.
