FangShi Void Star Wheel Cube

FangShi Void Star Wheel Cube is a collectible cube-shaped puzzle from the LimCube line. It has nothing in common with a classic 3x3. The cube turns around its corners, and each face also has a star-shaped wheel that rotates independently of the rest. In the centre of each face there is a hole (void) that you can see straight through. The body is 3D printed and comes in black with stickers.

How it works

The cube has two types of moves. The first are corner turns, which move pieces between adjacent faces. The second are wheel turns on the faces. Each wheel forms a star shape and rotates on its own, so it only changes the arrangement of pieces on its own face. Only by combining both types of moves can you rearrange the pieces the way you need. The holes in the face centres are empty and contain no extra pieces to solve.

There are no ready-made algorithms like the ones you know from the 3x3. You have to work out for yourself how the two types of moves affect each other. Experience with corner-turning puzzles will come in handy.

Build

The Void Star Wheel Cube is 3D printed rather than injection-moulded like typical speedcubing cubes. It is a small-batch product. It has no magnets or tension adjustment system, and the colours are marked with stickers. It is best solved slowly and carefully. It is not suitable for fast turning or high TPS.

Don't confuse it with similar puzzles

• FangShi Void Star Wheel Dodecahedron works on a similar principle, but it is shaped like a dodecahedron and is noticeably larger.
• Void Multi-Star Wheel Cube by Calvin's Puzzle is a different design. It has extra pieces in the face holes, connected to the corners, which also need to be solved.

Who is it for?

For collectors of unusual puzzles and for people who have already solved a few corner-turning puzzles and are looking for something more challenging. For a child's first puzzle, it's better to choose something simpler, such as a classic 3x3 or a Dino Cube.
