FanXin Case Cube is a shape-shifting puzzle outside the official WCA events. The mechanism works like a Fisher Cube, but the solved shape is a cuboid rather than a cube. Because of that, after just a few moves the puzzle changes shape in a less predictable way than a regular Fisher. This version comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme, meaning no stickers, just coloured plastic.

How this shape mod works

In a Fisher Cube, the cuts of a classic 3x3 cube are rotated by 45 degrees around one axis. This gives the pieces unusual shapes, and once scrambled, the puzzle "falls out of shape". The Case Cube does the same, but on an elongated body. Some pieces are larger than others, so the puzzle looks very different as you scramble it, and it is harder to tell at a glance which piece is which.

Inside there is a 3x3 mechanism, so knowing any method for solving a 3x3 cube is enough. You do, however, have to get used to seeing the pieces in a new way: the centres and edges look different than on a standard cube, and you also have to track the orientation of pieces by their shape. According to user reviews, the longer pieces can make the Case Cube harder than the classic Fisher Cube, especially towards the end of the solve.

What to expect

This is a puzzle for your collection and for fun, not a speedcube. It has no magnets and no tension adjustment system, so don't expect the feel of a flagship 3x3 or high TPS. What matters here is recognising pieces in an unusual shape, not turning speed.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve a 3x3 and want to try something different. The Case Cube is a good next step after the Fisher Cube, Mirror Cube or FanXin fruit cubes. It also makes a great gift for anyone who collects unusual puzzles. If you are just learning to solve the cube, it's better to start with a regular 3x3.
