FanXin Fruit 4 Set Cube is a set of four puzzles from the FanXin fruit series: a peach, a pear, a lemon and an orange. Inside, each one has a classic 3x3 mechanism, but on the outside every cube is shaped like a fruit. These are typical shape mods: you solve them like a regular 3x3 cube, but the difficulty is different from a standard cube.

How to solve the fruit cubes

Colors won't help you solve them, because each fruit is a single, solid color. Instead, you look at the shape of the pieces and how their surfaces fit together. Once scrambled, the cube loses its fruit shape and turns into an irregular block, and you have to picture the original shape to put it back together. If you know the beginner's method, you can solve these cubes with the same algorithms. The hardest part is recognizing where each piece belongs.

According to customer reviews, the peach and the orange are noticeably harder than the others. Some of their pieces look very similar, so near the end of the solve it's easy to mix up two pieces and have to swap them. The set isn't designed for speedcubing. The cubes have no magnets or tension adjustment, and what counts here is the brain teaser, not the time.

If you're a complete beginner, it's better to start with a classic 3x3 cube, because without knowing a method the fruit cubes can quickly become frustrating.
