FanXin 4x4 Pyraminx (Master Pyraminx)

FanXin 4x4 Pyraminx is a four-layer version of the classic pyramid puzzle, also known as the Master Pyraminx. The shape stays the same: a tetrahedron with turning tips. The extra layer, however, means that solving it is no longer as short and simple as on a regular Pyraminx. It is a stickerless puzzle in bright colors, with no stickers that could wear off or peel.

How is it different from a regular Pyraminx?

A classic Pyraminx has only a few pieces to solve, which is why experienced solvers finish it in a few seconds. The 4x4 version adds centers on the faces, and the edges are made up of several pieces that you first need to pair up. Solving it is therefore a bit like the reduction method known from the 4x4 cube: you sort out the centers and edges first, and only then solve the rest like a regular Pyraminx. If you have already mastered the Pyraminx and are looking for the next challenge in this shape, this is the natural next step.

How it turns

Turning is smooth, although lockups can happen during faster solving. This puzzle has no magnets, so the layers do not align on their own and there is no characteristic "click". You need to turn more precisely than on magnetic speedcubing models. Tension is set with adjustment screws, so you can find the balance between looser turning and a lower risk of pieces popping out.

Who is it for?

The FanXin Master Pyraminx is a good choice if you can solve a regular Pyraminx and want a more complex puzzle in the same shape, and it is also great for puzzle collectors. It is not a competition model. The Master Pyraminx is not a WCA event, so this puzzle is for solving at home, not for setting official times. For a child's first pyramid puzzle, the classic Pyraminx is a better choice.
