GAN 12 Maglev Limited Edition (Chan) 3x3

GAN released this limited edition in summer 2022 under the name Chan. The mechanism is the same as in the regular GAN 12 Maglev 3x3, the cube that in 2021 became the first mass-produced cube to replace springs with the MagLev system. The limited edition differs in its looks and in what comes in the box. The outer part of the pieces is light, while the inside is colored and transparent. The cube comes in a separate collector's box with extras. We offer the Pink variant.

How it turns

The GAN 12 Maglev is clearly a fast cube. Instead of springs, it uses repelling magnets that reduce friction, so the layers turn very lightly and there is no spring noise. The magnets in the core (Enhanced Core Positioning 2.0) finish the turn on their own when the layer is about 30 degrees from aligning. This helps keep your solves smooth at high TPS. Users usually describe the feel as very smooth. Some of them, however, say the cube feels too fast at first, and without a good setup and lube you may get lockups and catching. If you are switching from a slower, more controllable cube, it may take a while to get used to it.

Adjustment

• Magnetic GES is a system in which pairs of repelling magnets do the work of springs. It offers 6 levels of elasticity (tensioning) and 6 levels of center travel (compression).
• Magnet strength has 7 levels, according to the manufacturer. The limited edition set includes additional corner magnets.
• The manufacturer states a total of 252 setting combinations, so you can set the cube up more for speed or more for control.

What makes the limited edition special

The cube comes in a different box than the standard GAN 12. Inside you will find a collector's card, a pouch in the edition's colors, a case with spare magnets and an adjustment tool, and a set of GAN stickers.

Who is it for?

For a speedcuber or collector who wants the GAN 12 Maglev in an unusual version. If all that matters to you is how the cube turns, the regular GAN 12 Maglev performs exactly the same. The difference is in the looks and the extras. For a complete beginner, this is probably too fast and too complex a cube to start with.
