GAN 13 Maglev FX 3x3

GAN 13 Maglev FX 3x3 is a version of the flagship GAN 13 from 2022. The mechanism is the same, but the magnet strength cannot be adjusted. On the regular GAN 13 you can set it to one of 6 levels, while on the FX the manufacturer has fixed it permanently. This makes the cube lighter than the standard version, and you don't have to hunt for the right magnet setting. It also features MagLev, core magnets, tension and center travel adjustment, and a matte (frosted) surface in the stickerless bright color scheme.

How it turns

MagLev replaces classic springs with repelling magnets. On the GAN 13, this repulsion works together with the attraction of the magnets in the pieces. In practice, the cube turns fast and smooth, and the layers snap into place clearly (the characteristic "push-pull" feel). According to reviews and user feedback, the FX magnets are fairly strong out of the box, and the cube is stable and predictable during fast turning. If you like very light, weakly magnetized cubes, the fixed magnet strength may not suit you. In that case, the standard GAN 13 with adjustment is a better choice.

Technology and adjustment

• MagLev: magnetic repulsion instead of springs. It gives faster, lighter turning without the noise typical of springs.
• Core positioning 3.0. The core magnets work together with the pieces, help align the layers and stabilize the cube.
• 6 elasticity levels, i.e. the MagLev compression strength.
• 6 center travel levels. This setting affects corner cutting and resistance to popping. Together with elasticity, it gives 36 combinations, which you set with the key included in the set.
• Fixed magnet strength. This is the main difference from the regular GAN 13 Maglev.

FX, Frosted or UV?

All three versions of the GAN 13 Maglev share the same mechanism. Frosted and UV have 6-level magnet adjustment and differ in surface: Frosted is matte, while UV has a glossy coating with stronger grip. FX has the same matte surface as Frosted and offers medium grip, but no magnet adjustment. This makes it lighter and easier to set up.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want a cube from the GAN 13 platform with MagLev and don't need magnet adjustment. The FX is a great fit for intermediate cubers moving up from a cheaper magnetic cube to a flagship. It also suits speedcubers who value low weight and don't change their magnet settings. If you like testing different magnet strengths, choose the standard GAN 13 Maglev.
