This is a limited blue edition of GAN's 2022 flagship cube. Inside is the GAN 13 Maglev mechanism: 56 mm in size, 71 g in weight, MagLev instead of springs, and 88 magnets. The Limited Edition differs from the regular version in looks, not in how it performs while solving. You buy it for the colour or for your collection, and in your hands it works like a fully fledged flagship.

How it turns

The GAN 13 Maglev is very fast, especially straight out of the box. Reviewers say it is hard to control on the factory settings, and corner cutting then requires more force. A good setup usually helps, meaning the right combination of tension, compression, magnet strength and lube. The feel is distinctly "slidey". The repelling magnets in the edges work against the magnets in the core and push the layers away from misaligned positions. On looser core settings and with strong magnets, the cube snaps layers into place on its own even when they are more than 30° off. On tighter settings this effect is weaker. Some users also say the cube is fairly loud.

Magnets, MagLev and adjustment

• 88 magnets: 8 in the core, 56 in the pieces, 12 repelling magnets and 12 MagLev rings.
• MagLev: magnetic repulsion replaces springs. The GAN 13 is the manufacturer's first model to combine magnetic attraction and repulsion in one cube.
• Enhanced Core Positioning 3.0: the magnets in the core guide the layers into the correct position and stabilise the cube during fast turning.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers who like fast cubes and want to fine-tune the setup themselves, so they can make full use of the wide adjustment range. If you prefer a controllable feel straight out of the box, be prepared for some experimenting with the settings. As a first cube for a child or a beginner, the GAN 13 is usually too fast and too complex, so a simpler magnetic model is a more sensible choice. The Limited Edition makes the most sense for collectors and for anyone who wants the GAN 13 mechanism in a non-standard colour scheme.
