GAN 356 Air M 3x3x3 Magnetic

GAN 356 Air M 3x3 Magnetic

The magnetic version of the GAN 356 Air, released in 2020. The GAN 356 Air M 3x3 is a newer take on the classic Air, but its internal design and tension adjustment system come from the more expensive GAN 356 X and XS models. So you get GAN's higher-end solutions in a simpler cube. The corners and edges feature GAN's characteristic "Honey Comb" grooves.

How it turns

The first thing you notice in your hand is the weight. For a full-size 3x3 cube (56 mm), the Air M is very light. The magnets are subtly noticeable during solves. They help you finish turning a layer without being intrusive. The magnet strength cannot be adjusted. If you prefer a strong, distinct "click", this cube may not suit you. Compared to the GAN 356 M, this model performs better in terms of corner cutting, which was the most frequently criticised aspect of the 356 M.

GES v5 tension adjustment

Tension is set with the GES v5 system that GAN uses in its cubes. The set includes two sets of nuts:

• light blue, factory-installed: markings (1) 0.6 mm and (3) 0.8 mm from the core,
• dark blue: markings (2) 0.7 mm and (4) 0.9 mm from the core.

Use the included tool to change the settings. This way, without taking the cube apart, you can set it looser for faster turning or tighter if you need more control.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants a light, magnetic GAN cube with GES tension adjustment but doesn't need adjustable magnets or the extras of the flagship models. It's suitable for everyday practice and for competitions, as it is approved for official competitions. It's also convenient for beginners, as the set includes a guide and access to a tutorial. If you like strong magnets, you should rather consider a model with stronger magnets.
