The GAN 356 Maglev Frosted is a magnetic 3x3 cube with 76 magnets, a MagLev system instead of springs and core magnets that support auto-alignment. Magnetic GES v2 adjustment offers 36 setting combinations, and the Frosted version has a matte surface without a UV coating.

In 2023, GAN brought back the 356 name and used it for features that had previously been reserved mainly for its more expensive flagships. The GAN 356 Maglev Frosted is a magnetic 3x3 cube with a MagLev system instead of springs, core magnets and Magnetic GES v2 tension adjustment. The Frosted version has a matte surface without a UV coating and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.
In MagLev, classic springs are replaced by repelling magnets. This makes turning light, without the typical spring resistance. The cube is fast straight out of the box, and users often say it feels rather loose, even on tighter settings. If you prefer a more controllable feel, tightening the tension and choosing a thicker lube is usually enough.
The core magnets help layers settle into place. According to GAN, auto-alignment kicks in from about 30 degrees, so an incomplete turn snaps into place on its own. Corner cutting reaches about 55 degrees, and reverse corner cutting about 35 degrees. Some cubers feel the auto-alignment is weaker in practice than the manufacturer suggests. It's best to treat it as a stability aid that won't replace accurate turning.
Both versions share the same mechanism; only the finish differs. Frosted is matte plastic with medium grip. The UV version has a glossy coating with a different feel in the hand. Some people love it, others find it can get slippery during fast solving. So the choice comes down to which surface you prefer.
For anyone who wants to try MagLev and core magnets without reaching for GAN's most expensive models. It works well as a first serious cube after a beginner model, and also as a main cube for cubers who like a fast setup. If you prefer a heavier, more "solid" spring-based feel, a model with a classic system, e.g. the GAN 356 M, may suit you better. A child who is just starting out may need a moment to get used to such a light cube.
