GAN251 ui 2x2 is a wirelessly charged 2x2 smart cube from GAN. Inside is a 21 mm Ball-Core designed specifically for the 2x2. It houses the electronics and Hall sensors that register every move without physical contact. The cube connects to the CubeStation app, where you can see your solve statistics, use training modes and play online 2x2 battles. On the outside it measures 51 mm and has a UV coating and a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The mechanism is based on the corner pieces known from the 251 series. The internals were redesigned to fit a larger core with the electronics. GAN states corner cutting of up to 90° and layer self-alignment of up to 30°. In reviews, users describe the cube as very fast. The plastic is harder than in the GAN251 M Pro, so the feel is more tactile and crunchy and less "mushy". With aggressive turning, minor catching can occur. A slower lube and a tighter tension setting usually help with this. If you like a soft, quiet feel, you may need a moment to get used to it.

Magnets and adjustment

• 56 magnets in the pieces and in the core. The magnets in the core attract and repel in different directions (omni-directional core positioning), which helps stabilize the layers during fast turning.
• 12 tension levels in the GES Pro+ system, with numbered adjustment, so it is easy to return to a setting you know works.
• 6 magnet strength levels (GMS). Combined with tension, this gives 72 setting combinations.

Charging and battery

Just place the cube on the charging station included in the set. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours and, according to the manufacturer, lasts for about 30 hours of solving. The cube has no exposed contacts, and the manufacturer describes the UV coating as resistant to water and sweat.

Who is it for?

For cubers who practice 2x2 regularly and want to track their progress in the app: times, moves, statistics. If you don't need the app data, a regular flagship 2x2 will give you similar mechanical performance for less money. For a child who is just starting out, a smart cube is a good choice when the app is meant to motivate them to learn.
