GAN cubes have been used by the world's top speedcubers for years, and many of the brand's innovations later made their way into cubes from other manufacturers. GANCUBE is based in Guangzhou (Canton), China. The brand was founded by Jiang Ganyuan, China's first national record holder in solving the 3x3 cube. The first cube bearing his name was made in 2011, and GAN has been operating as a company since 2014.

GAN cubes: from flagship 3x3s to other puzzles

In its early years, GAN made only 3x3 cubes, and most of the innovations the brand is known for were developed in this category. Its first puzzle beyond the 3x3 was the magnetic GAN 249 2x2 from 2017. Today the range also includes Pyraminx, Skewb, Megaminx, bigger cubes and Mirror cubes, but the flagship 3x3s still set the direction of the brand's development.

Innovations introduced by GAN

• GES (GAN Elasticity System): interchangeable nuts with springs of different strengths, first used in the GAN 356 Air (2016). The GAN 356 X introduced the numerical GES+ version, where you change the tension by turning the nut. Newer models use magnetic GES nuts.


• Magnets: the GAN 356 Air UM and SM (2017) were among the first mass-produced cubes with magnets between the corners and edges. The magnets help a layer settle into place and reduce overshooting.


• MagLev: in the GAN 12 MagLev (2021), the springs were replaced with repelling magnets. Less friction means faster, more elastic turning.


• Smart cube: cubes from the GAN 356 i series connect via Bluetooth to an app that records your moves, measures your time and lets you train.

Which GAN cube should you choose?

Flagship models such as the GAN 11 M Pro, GAN 15 MagLev UV and GAN 16 MagLev MAX UV are made for speedcubers who want to tailor the tension, compression and magnet strength to their style. As a beginner, you don't need that many adjustments. Simpler models such as the GAN 356M or GAN 356 RS, as well as Monster Go cubes in the Standard or Magnetic version, are a great start. Among 2x2s, the GAN 249 v2 and GAN 251M Pro are popular choices. The range also includes GAN Lube, stands, bags and keychains.

GAN equipment is used by Feliks Zemdegs, regarded as one of the most successful speedcubers in history and sponsored by the brand for years. GAN cubes have also been used to set many world records.
