The GAN Pyraminx M Explorer is a magnetic Pyraminx with a core-edge positioning system, honeycomb structure and smooth turning. Unlike the Standard version, the set includes interchangeable GES v4 nuts in four strengths, from 1.8N to 3.4N, which let you choose the tension, from a light, fast setup to a stable, controlled one.

GAN Pyraminx M Explorer: a magnetic Pyraminx with a full GES v4 set

GAN released the Pyraminx M in 2020 as the first Pyraminx with a magnetic core-edge positioning system. The Explorer version has the same mechanism as the Standard. The difference is that the box includes a full set of fourth-generation GES nuts, so you can set the spring tension to suit you instead of sticking with the factory setting. The plastic is matte (frosted), and the colour scheme is stickerless bright.

How it turns

Turning is smooth and effortless, and the puzzle is fairly quiet. The pieces have GAN's typical honeycomb structure, which reduces friction and helps spread the lube evenly. Reviewers list corner cutting as one of this model's strengths. The magnets are in the core and in the edge feet. You can feel them, but they are gentle. Fewer magnets mean less weight and lighter turning. On the other hand, some users find that on the factory springs the puzzle is not very stable and can pop straight out of the box. In that case, firmer GES nuts help and noticeably settle the mechanism.

GES v4 adjustment

GES nuts change the spring force, meaning how firmly the pieces are pressed against the core. Softer ones give faster, more flexible turning. Harder ones give more control and reduce popping. Each colour corresponds to a specific spring force given in newtons, so it is easy to compare settings and go back to the one that suited you.

Standard, Explorer or Enhanced?

All three versions of the Pyraminx M have core-edge magnets. The Standard has only one factory-fitted GES set. The Explorer adds interchangeable nuts. The Enhanced also has extra magnets in the pieces that attract the edges to the corners. This gives a stronger magnetic feel and greater stability. The Explorer suits someone who prefers light, not very "clicky" magnets and wants the option to adjust. If you like clearly noticeable magnets, you will feel more at home with the Enhanced.

Who is it for?

For people who solve the Pyraminx regularly or compete, as the model is allowed in official competitions. Beginners can start with it too, but the interchangeable GES nuts will be appreciated mainly by those who can already feel the difference between settings.
