GAN Pyraminx M Enhanced UV

GAN released this magnetic Pyraminx in 2020. It was the first Pyraminx with magnets in the core. GAN Pyraminx M Enhanced UV is the best-equipped version of the model: it has a full set of 60 magnets, interchangeable GES nuts for tension adjustment and a glossy UV coating. We offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

Magnets in the core

In a typical magnetic Pyraminx, the magnets sit only between the outer pieces. Here GAN uses its Magnetic Core Positioning system. Some magnets are in the core and their counterparts are in the edges, so the layers are aligned from the centre of the puzzle. The Enhanced version has 60 magnets in total: 24 between the corners and centres, 12 between the edges and the core, and 24 between the edges and centres. The Standard version has 36 magnets and lacks the last group.

How it turns

Reviewers describe this Pyraminx as very smooth and stable. The core magnets don't give a strong "click"; instead they gently pull the layer into place. The magnets between the edges and centres add a more noticeable snap. As a result, overshooting is rare. The manufacturer states corner cutting of up to 120°, and users praise the corner cutting in practice too. The pieces have a honeycomb-shaped contact surface, which reduces friction and helps spread the lube evenly. The tips turn with more resistance and have strong magnets, so they are hard to twist by accident. Some people, however, find them too strong. There are also opinions that the puzzle can be loose out of the box and prone to popping. In that case, a tighter nut setting helps.

GES adjustment

Instead of screws, it uses GES nuts. Each nut has two settings, which you change by pressing and twisting it. The Enhanced set includes four sets of nuts with different spring strengths. This lets you set up the Pyraminx looser for fast turning or tighter for more stability.

Enhanced UV, Enhanced or Standard?

The Standard version has core-edge magnets and one set of GES nuts. The Explorer adds extra nuts. The Enhanced version also adds magnets in the pieces, which makes the magnetic feel stronger and more consistent. Mechanically, the Enhanced UV is identical to the Enhanced Frosted; only the surface is different. The UV coating is glossy, provides a stronger grip and is more resistant to wear. If you prefer matte plastic with medium grip, choose the frosted version.

Who is it for?

For people who practise Pyraminx for time or compete and want a stable, adjustable puzzle with strong magnets. For a child just starting out with Pyraminx, the Standard version or a cheaper magnetic model is usually enough. The Enhanced UV is the best value when you want the full set of magnets and the UV surface.
