Monster Go 3x3x3 UT

A training cube from the Monster Go series, GAN's educational line. The Monster Go 3x3x3 UT has the size and build of a regular 3x3 cube, but only some of its pieces are coloured. The first layer is fully coloured, and in the middle layer only the centres have colour. Your task is to solve the white layer, meaning the cross and the corners. This lets beginners focus on the first step without getting lost in the rest of the cube.

How the UT training cube works

Many people learning the layer-by-layer method get stuck on the very first layer. On a fully coloured cube, it's hard to tell which pieces matter at any given moment. On the UT, you only see what you need to solve the white layer and match it to the centres. You can solve the first layer intuitively, without algorithms. Along the way, it's easy to see how the pieces move as you turn the cube. More experienced cubers also use a cube like this to practise the cross.

The Monster Go series includes three training cubes: Rainbow, Cloud and UT. The UT version is the next step after Cloud. Once the first layer is no longer a problem, you can move on to a full 3x3 cube, for example the magnetic version of the Monster Go 3x3.

Mechanism and tension adjustment

It's a learning cube, but the design comes from GAN. Inside, the pieces have the honeycomb structure known from GAN cubes. It helps spread the lube evenly and smooths out the turning. Tension is adjusted by hand with GES nuts, no tool needed. The cube is stable and controllable rather than very fast, which helps when learning: it's easier to control your moves and overshooting happens less often. Users praise its smooth turning and decent corner cutting for a cube of this type.

Who is it for?

The UT is for a child or adult who is just starting out and wants to see results from their first attempts quickly. It's also useful for a parent or teacher showing someone the basics. It isn't suitable for competitions, as its non-standard colour scheme means it is not allowed in official tournaments. For speedcubing and solving the whole cube, you need a full 3x3 cube.
