Monster Go 3x3x3 UT – a training cube for learning the first layer

Monster Go 3x3x3 UT is a training cube from GAN's educational Monster Go series. It looks different from a regular 3x3, because only the first layer is fully coloured. In the middle layer, only the centers have colours. The cube counts as solved when the whole white layer is in place, including the cross and the corners. This lets a child or beginner focus on one stage without being distracted by the other pieces.

How it helps you learn

The Monster Go series includes three training cubes: Rainbow, Cloud and UT. The UT model is one step harder than the Cloud and covers exactly where the beginner's method starts: a correctly solved first layer. You can solve the first layer intuitively, without algorithms, and you see how moves work on the cube along the way. Parents like the UT because a child can finish the solve on their own. More experienced cubers use it to practise the cross and corner tracking.

Mechanism and adjustment

This is not a cheap toy with a clunky mechanism. Inside, the pieces have the honeycomb structure known from GAN cubes, which evens out the turning and helps spread the lube evenly. The core is stable and handles hard, imprecise turns well, which happen very often while learning. Users also mention good corner cutting. Tension adjustment is done by hand, without a tool, using orange numbered IPG nuts with GES springs. So you can easily tighten the cube if it is too loose, or loosen it if it turns too stiffly for your child.

Who is it for?

Monster Go UT is most useful for someone who is just learning to solve the cube, and for parents looking for a learning aid for their child. Once the first layer comes easily, it is worth moving on to a regular 3x3 cube, for example from the same Monster Go series. The UT is not suitable for timed solving, because you cannot solve the whole cube on it.
