GAN 354 M v2 3x3 Standard

This is the second generation of GAN's small cube. It came out in 2020 and measures 54 mm per side, while flagship 3x3 cubes are usually around 56 mm. The GAN 354 M v2 3x3 Standard is magnetic, stickerless and legal for official competitions. It has a simple mechanism with no extra systems. The Standard version comes with one set of GES v4 nuts.

What the smaller size gives you

You can easily feel the 2 mm difference in your hand. The cube puts less strain on your fingers and is easier to grip, so it works well for small hands, for kids and for one-handed solving (OH). If you're used to 56 mm cubes, you'll usually need a moment to adjust your fingertricks to it.

How it turns

The edges of the pieces are heavily rounded, which helps with corner cutting. The corner bases and torpedoes have a 1.5-layer design that improves stability. The magnets sit in translucent, coloured capsules and you can see them inside the cube. Their strength can't be adjusted. The turning is rather tactile and fairly scratchy, and you can clearly feel the magnets click with every move. According to GAN, the v2 has a softer and springier feel than the original 354 M. Reviewers point out that the cube is fast and fairly loose out of the box. If you prefer a tighter, more controllable setup, you may find the factory setting too loose.

GES v4 adjustment

Tension is adjusted numerically, by hand and without tools. The GES nut has three positions: 0.8 mm and 0.6 mm plus an empty one used for fitting a different GES set. With the Standard version you get one set of purple GES v4 nuts (1.8 N). The adjustment range is small, and that's the main limitation of this model. In this respect the cube is less flexible than newer flagships.

Standard or Explorer?

The mechanism is the same in both versions. The Explorer comes with extra GES nuts in three colours (yellow, green and blue) that let you change the spring strength. The Standard version includes only the purple ones. If the factory setting suits you, you don't need the extra GES nuts.

Who is it for?

For people with smaller hands, for kids looking for a solid magnetic cube, and for cubers who want a dedicated OH cube. If you need a wide adjustment range, consider a newer model.
