GAN 354 M v2 3x3 Advanced

A smaller version of GAN's flagship cubes. The GAN 354 M v2 3x3 measures 54 mm, so it is noticeably smaller than a typical speedcube. The second generation of this model (2020 version) comes with a lightweight plastic Airfoil GANScore core, manual GES adjustment with numbered settings and 48 magnets in visible, semi-transparent coloured capsules. The Advanced version includes a full set of GES v4 springs, so you can adjust the tension to your liking without buying any extra parts.

How it turns

The mechanism is simple, with no unnecessary gimmicks. The edges of the pieces are strongly rounded, which helps with corner cutting. The corner feet and torpedoes are 1.5-level and keep the layers stable. Turning is fairly rough, with a clearly noticeable magnetic click, so the cube feels tactile rather than smooth.

Out of the box the cube has very little lube, and with the pre-installed purple springs (the weakest in the set) some people find it too loose and flexible. With the Advanced version you can easily change that by fitting a stiffer spring from the set. A drawback of this model is the small range of compression adjustment.

GES v4 adjustment

Compression is set numerically, by hand and without tools. The nut has 3 possible settings:

• 0.8 mm
• 0.6 mm
• empty, i.e. a slot for swapping in a different GES set

You change the spring strength by swapping the GES units. The set includes four levels: purple 1.8N (pre-installed), blue 2.1N, green 2.5N and yellow 3.4N.

Who is it for?

The 54 mm size works best for one-handed solving (OH), for people with smaller hands and for kids. If you normally solve with a 56-57 mm cube, you may need some time to get used to it. The cube is allowed in official competitions, so it can serve as your main cube or as an extra cube for OH.
