Giiker Super Slide: electronic sliding puzzle

The classic Klotski-style sliding puzzle, now with electronics. Giiker Super Slide has a built-in LED screen and over 500 levels of gradually increasing difficulty. The rules are simple. You set up the pieces on the 4x5 board following the layout shown on the screen, then slide them so that the large red piece reaches the marked spot at the bottom of the board. You can't lift the pieces, only slide them.

How it works

A small screen in the corner shows the starting layout, the level number and a move counter. Once the pieces are in place, you press a button to start. The device detects on its own when the red piece has reached its spot. It then plays a short tune and moves on to the next level. Your progress is saved between sessions, so you don't have to start over after switching it off. You don't need an app, a phone or Bluetooth to play.

The pieces are magnetic. This gives them a slight resistance when sliding and keeps them from falling out when you tilt the board. That matters if the game is going to travel in a backpack or be played in the car.

Game modes

• Standard mode: levels in order, from the easiest to the more difficult ones.
• Learn Mode: shows the solution step by step. You can go forwards and backwards through the moves, which helps when you get stuck on a level.
• Challenge Mode: solving against the clock. The device rates your result on a scale from “Fail” to “Super”.

You can mute the sounds by holding the L and C buttons at the same time.

Who is it for?

This is not a speedcubing cube but a logic puzzle for calmly planning your moves. It makes a good gift for a child instead of yet another screen game, and it's also great for adults who enjoy classic sliding puzzles. The first levels are easy and adults may find them too simple. However, the difficulty increases gradually, and the higher levels require thinking several moves ahead. The pieces are small and removable, so the game is not suitable for very young children.
