Joker CA Glue 20g

When you work with cubes, sooner or later something comes unglued or breaks: a magnet falls out of its slot, a center cap comes off or a piece's clip cracks. Joker CA Glue 20g is a medium-viscosity cyanoacrylate glue (superglue). It sets quickly, usually within a few to a dozen or so seconds, so it is suitable for small cube repairs and for mods where something needs to be fixed permanently.

What medium viscosity gives you

Joker makes CA glues in several viscosities, from very thin to gel. Medium sits in the middle. Some of the glue seeps into the gap and fills it, while the rest stays on the surface, so you can still press the second part into place. In practice, the glue doesn't run as easily as the thin version, yet it still fills small irregularities, e.g. the play between a magnet and its slot in a piece.

According to the manufacturer, the glue bonds metal, plastic (in small amounts), wood, rubber, glass, ceramics and EPP foam, among others. In a cube, this mainly means plastic-to-plastic and plastic-to-magnet bonds.

Uses for cubes

• gluing back magnets that have fallen out of pieces,
• attaching center caps and small plastic parts,
• gluing cracked pieces, as long as the crack is not on a surface the mechanism moves against,
• mods, e.g. installing magnets in a cube that doesn't have them from the factory.

What to watch out for

Apply a really small amount. Excess glue that seeps between the layers or onto the sliding surfaces can block turning, and hardened CA is not easy to remove. Cyanoacrylate fumes can also leave a white residue on the plastic near the joint. It's best to glue a piece taken out of the cube and reassemble the cube only once the glue has fully set.

The glue bonds skin very quickly and is harmful, so use it carefully in a well-ventilated area. Keep it out of the reach of children. If a child is repairing the cube, it's better to leave the gluing to an adult.
