This puzzle looks completely different from a classic cube, but inside it has a regular 4x4 mechanism. The LanLan 4x4 Dodecahedron is a shape mod, which means it is a 4x4 cube with a different outer shape. Its eighteen-sided shape clearly sets it apart from other modifications. It closely resembles the CaneBall puzzle, but it has fewer colors and a slightly different shape. It is available in two versions: with a black (Black) or a white (White) body.

How to solve the LanLan 4x4 Dodecahedron

In terms of method, it is the same puzzle as a traditional 4x4 cube. First you solve the centers, then you pair up the edges, and finally you solve the whole puzzle like a 3x3. The shape only changes how the pieces look. The moves and algorithms stay the same, so if you can solve a 4x4, this modification is very easy. If you are just starting out, it is better to master a regular 4x4 cube first.

Mechanism and turning

Inside there is a standard 4x4 mechanism, but the turning is only average. The pieces catch on each other, so lockups happen often, smoothness is poor and mechanical resistance is high. The adjustment screws let you change the tension, but they won't change the character of the puzzle. This is not a cube for speedsolving or timing your solves.
