LanLan Cylinder 3x3x2

LanLan Cylinder 3x3x2 is a 3x3x2 cuboid shaped like a cylinder. From the top and bottom you see a 3x3 face, while vertically the puzzle has only two layers. The edges are rounded, so the whole thing looks like a low cylinder about 66 mm in diameter. The mechanism is the same as in a regular 3x3x2. Only the shape is different.

How the cylinder 3x3x2 cube works

The top and bottom layers turn 90°, just like on a classic 3x3 cube. The side faces turn only 180°, because with two layers vertically a quarter turn isn't possible. These restrictions make the puzzle noticeably easier than a 3x3. You still need to learn a few algorithms of its own, especially for placing the edges and corners in the middle section. In terms of difficulty, the 3x3x2 is usually considered to sit between a 2x2 and a 3x3 cube. If you already know how to solve a 3x3, you'll pick it up quickly.

Turning

The cube turns well and causes no trouble while solving. Users point out that the top and bottom layer turns are clearly smooth straight out of the box. The 180° side turns can feel a bit heavier at first and respond well to lube. This is neither a speedcube nor a magnetic cube. It's meant to be an enjoyable, hassle-free puzzle for solving and for your collection.

Who is it for?

It's a good choice if you can already solve a 3x3 and want to try something different without a steep learning curve. The Cylinder also works well as a first cuboid in your collection or as a gift for a child who likes cubes. Collectors of shape mods will appreciate its unusual form. The puzzle is not approved for official WCA competitions, so there's no point buying it for practicing competition events.
