LanLan Edges-only-Void is a puzzle where only the edges are left. It is a variant of the Void Cube, a 3x3 cube without centers, with holes going through the middle of each face. Here you can't see the corners either. The edges on each layer are extended into a trapezoid shape and cover the spots where a regular Void Cube has its corners. It turns exactly like a classic 3x3 cube, but looks completely different.

How to solve the Edges-only Void cube

There are no centers and no visible corners, so you have to work out the face colors from the edges alone. That's the most confusing part at first. If you know a beginner's method for the 3x3, you can solve it without learning new algorithms, because edge-solving sequences are all you need. Near the end you may run into a situation that is impossible on a regular cube: two edges swapped with each other. Just like on the Void Cube, about half of all solves end with this parity. Then a single short algorithm is enough, and you finish the last layer as usual.

Mechanism and build quality

The mechanism comes from the Void Cube: instead of a classic core with centers, there is a special frame that holds the pieces. This cube has no magnets and is not designed for speedcubing. According to buyers' reviews, it feels solid right out of the box, but it is also quite stiff. It may turn heavily at first. A little lube and breaking it in usually help. There is no tension adjustment or compression. The colored tiles are stickers on black plastic.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve a 3x3 cube and want an interesting shape mod for their collection or the next step after the Void Cube. The cube is great practice for recognizing the color scheme without reference points. For complete beginners, a regular 3x3 cube is a better start, and the Edges-only Void will work well as your next puzzle.
