LanLan Flower Copter

LanLan Flower Copter is an extended version of the Curvy Copter that allows more moves than the original, including jumbling moves. The puzzle was designed by Minh Sanghsu and is produced by LanLan. Its name comes from the extra cuts on each face, which form the shape of an eight-petal flower.

How this puzzle works

The Flower Copter has a hybrid mechanism: you can turn both the edges and the corners. Edge turns work exactly as on the Curvy Copter, so if you know that puzzle, you will feel at home right away. Corner turns are the new element. They resemble the moves of corner-turning puzzles, but they are not identical to them. These cuts create a new type of piece: completely asymmetric, with as many as 48 of them, which is rare in physical puzzles.

Jumbling

As with every edge-turning puzzle, the Flower Copter can perform jumbling moves. An edge is turned by an angle smaller than 180 degrees, and pieces move to positions that cannot be reached with regular moves. After such a move, some turns become blocked, but the corners can still be turned. This makes the scramble exceptionally difficult. Without jumbling, solving is much simpler, so the difficulty depends largely on how you scramble it.

Who is it for?

The Flower Copter is a great choice for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles and has already tackled the Curvy Copter or the Helicopter Cube. It is not a speedcubing puzzle or a WCA event, so there are no magnets or TPS-oriented setup. What counts here is the solving itself and learning a new mechanism. For your first puzzle after the 3x3 cube, it is better to choose something simpler, such as the Curvy Copter.
