Lanlan Painting Mask

LanLan Painting Mask

LanLan Painting Mask is a shape mod puzzle. People buy it mainly for its unusual shape and look, not for fast solving. Its form differs from a classic cube, so this model works better on a collector's shelf or as a change of pace after yet another 3x3 solve. It is not well suited to timed practice. The version we sell has a black body.

What to expect

With puzzles like this, the difficulty comes mainly from the shape. After a few moves the Painting Mask loses its original look, which makes it harder to tell which piece goes where. Even if you know general cube-solving methods, you will need to get used to the different look of the pieces.

This is a LanLan design without magnets. There is no tension or compression adjustment, no magnets and no Ball-Core, so don't compare it with modern speedcubing cubes. Turning, corner cutting and resistance to lockups are not what matters most here. What counts is the puzzle itself and how it looks.

Who is it for?

For people who collect unusual puzzles and already have other LanLan models in their collection, such as dodecahedrons or rhombic cubes. The Painting Mask is also a good pick for a cuber who knows the 3x3 well and wants something that makes you think instead of repeating memorised algorithms. For a child's first cube, a classic 3x3 is a better choice. Shape mods work best once you have mastered the basics of solving.
