LanLan Rhombic Icosahedron, also known as Scopperil, is a puzzle for people who already know the 4x4 cube and want to see how they handle it in a completely different form. The mechanism comes from a 4x4, but the puzzle is shaped like a rhombic icosahedron. Because of this, the pieces look different than on a regular cube. We offer the black-body version.

A 4x4 shape mod: what are you actually solving?

The moves are the same as on a 4x4: you turn the outer and inner layers. What changes is the look. The faces don't correspond to the faces of a cube, so it's harder to tell which piece is a center, which is an edge and which is a corner, and where each one should go. Buyers often point out that the whole challenge lies in shifting your way of thinking. You know the algorithms, but you have to apply them to a new shape. If you solve the 4x4 with the reduction method, you have a good foundation. Some people find commutators more convenient, because with an unusual shape they make it easier to control individual pieces.

How it turns

According to user reviews, the Scopperil turns smoothly right out of the box, and the build is solid and doesn't feel fragile. This is not a speedcube. There are no adjustment systems or features that allow for high TPS. This is a puzzle you solve at a relaxed pace, because what counts is the thinking, not the time.

Who is it for?

For a cuber who can solve a 4x4 and is looking for a change from classic cubes. It will also suit collectors of unusual puzzles. We don't recommend it as a first puzzle. Without knowing the 4x4, it will be hard to solve, and beginners will be better served by a regular 3x3 cube.
