LanLan Skewb Curvy Rhombohedron is a shape modification of the classic Skewb. The mechanism works exactly like a regular Skewb: the puzzle has four axes of rotation, one along each diagonal of the cube, and every move affects all six faces. The difference lies in the shell. The body is "stretched" into a rhombohedron, a shape whose faces are rhombuses, and its surfaces are also slightly convex (pillowed). That's where the word Curvy in the name comes from.

How to solve a rhombohedron-shaped Skewb

Once scrambled, the puzzle loses its original shape because the pieces have different proportions. So you need to keep track not only of the colors but also of whether the body returns to its rhombohedron form. If you can solve a regular Skewb, you can use the same methods, but recognizing cases takes some getting used to. If you don't know the Skewb well yet, it will be quite a challenge.

Users praise the turning: the puzzle turns smoothly right out of the box, and the mechanism is distinctly clicky. Every move ends with an audible click as the layer "snaps" into place. Still, this is a puzzle for fun and collecting, not for setting records. This shape is not a WCA event, and nobody buys it for TPS.

Don't confuse it with other LanLan rhombohedrons

LanLan offers several puzzles with similar names. This version is a Skewb, meaning it turns around the corners. The LanLan DDR Pillowed 3x3 Rhombohedron is a modification of the 3x3 cube, and the 6-Axis Curvy Rhombohedron is based on the Axis Cube. They look similar, but they are solved in completely different ways.

Who is it for?

For those who already know the Skewb and want to try it in a different form, as well as for collectors of unusual puzzles. It can also make an interesting gift for someone who has mastered the 3x3 cube and is looking for something new. For a first puzzle, a regular Skewb is a better choice.
