LanLan Skewb Dodecahedron

LanLan Skewb Dodecahedron is a puzzle with a Skewb mechanism built into a dodecahedron shape. It turns exactly like a classic Skewb: you rotate half of the puzzle around one of the axes running through the corners. The different shape, however, changes how the pieces look and how you recognize where they are. The model is made by LanLan, a Chinese company known for its wide range of unusual puzzles and shape mods. The shop offers the black (Black) version.

How is it different from a regular Skewb?

The mechanism stays the same, but the pieces are shaped differently than on the cube. If you already know how to solve a Skewb, you don't need to learn a new method. You do, however, need to get used to the puzzle's different look and learn to recognize which piece is where. If you have never solved a Skewb before, you can start with this model. Widely available beginner methods rely on a few short algorithms, but at the very beginning a regular Skewb will still be easier.

This puzzle is not a WCA event. In competitions the Skewb is cube-shaped, so the LanLan Skewb Dodecahedron is more of a collector's piece and a puzzle to solve for fun than gear for timed practice.

Who is it for?

For people who already know the Skewb and want to try it in a different form, and for collectors of unusually shaped puzzles. It's also a great gift for someone who already has a few cubes and is looking for something that looks different from yet another 3x3. This puzzle isn't designed for speed, so there's no point judging it by TPS or corner cutting the way you would flagship speedcubing cubes.
