Lee 2x3x3 Ghost Cube

Lee 2x3x3 Ghost Cube is a handmade shape mod by Lee, distributed under the Calvin's Puzzle label. It is based on a rounded 3x3x2 cuboid fitted with 3D-printed tiles. The tiles are cut at an angle, just like on the classic Ghost Cube, so after a few moves the cuboid turns into an irregular shape. All sides have the same sticker colour, so you solve the puzzle by the shape of the pieces, not by colours.

How to solve the 2x3x3 ghost cube

Mechanically, it is a 3x3x2 cuboid. The two layers on the "2" axis turn 90 degrees, while the other sides turn only 180 degrees. If you can solve a regular 3x3x2, you already know the moves. The real challenge is reading the shapes: you need to recognise which piece goes where and how it should be oriented so that the sides become flat again. It has fewer pieces than the 3x3 ghost cube, which makes it a good introduction to ghost cubes if you have already tackled the Mirror Cube or other shape mods.

Build quality

This is a puzzle made of hand-fitted parts, not a cube from a factory mould. According to the manufacturer, it turns smoothly, but it can't be compared to a speed cube: it has no magnets and no tension adjustment, and the 3D prints may have a slightly noticeable texture. Reviews from other shops are mixed. Some people mention smooth turning, while others point out looseness and centre pieces falling off. It is best treated as a collector's puzzle for relaxed solving rather than for setting times.

For people who collect shape mods and unusual shape-shifting puzzles, as well as for cubers who want to take on something different from yet another 3x3 cube. As a first puzzle for a child, it is better to choose something simpler and more durable, such as the classic Mirror Cube.
