Lee 4x4 Double-Fisher Cube

This 4x4 is based on the Fisher Cube idea, but the modification is doubled. In a classic Fisher, the layer cuts are rotated around one axis, so after a few moves the cube stops being a cube. In the Lee 4x4 Double-Fisher Cube, this trick has been applied twice. When solved, the faces form a symmetrical pattern, and once scrambled, the shape becomes much more irregular than on a regular Fisher 4x4. Lee specializes in shape mods, and the Double-Fisher series (also known as Dual Fisher) includes 2x2 and 5x5 versions as well. The 4x4 version was released in 2024.

How to solve a shape-shifting 4x4

The moves are the same as on a regular 4x4, but the pieces are harder to recognize. After a scramble, the puzzle loses its shape completely, and pieces that look alike may correspond to entirely different pieces on a regular 4x4. That means you have to watch both the colors and the shapes at the same time. The solving logic is the same as on a 4x4: centers, edges and the 3x3 stage. You will also run into the parity cases typical of the 4x4. During your first attempts, patience usually helps more than fast algorithms when it comes to reading what is going on with the puzzle.

This is a puzzle for relaxed solving and for your collection, not a cube for setting fast times. With such an irregular shape, don't expect the comfort and TPS of a speedcube.

Black version

The body is made of black plastic and the colors come from stickers. This gives it a classic look, with the symmetrical Double-Fisher pattern clearly visible against the black edges.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a regular 4x4 and are looking for something new. It also works well as the next step after the Fisher Cube 3x3 or a single Fisher 4x4, once that one no longer poses a challenge. Shape mod collectors will see it as the in-between version of the Double-Fisher 2x2 and 5x5. For a first 4x4, including one for a child, it's better to choose a standard 4x4 cube.
