Lee 4x4 Ghost Cube

Lee 4x4 Ghost Cube is a ghost cube shape mod built on a 4x4 cube mechanism. Lee makes it by attaching 3D-printed pieces to a regular 4x4. The cuts are offset from each other, so the pieces have different shapes and sizes, and after just a few moves the puzzle no longer looks like a cube. All faces have stickers in a single colour, so colours give you no hints. The goal is to restore the cube shape.

How the 4x4 ghost cube differs from a regular 4x4

The mechanism and moves are the same as on a 4x4, but knowing a 4x4 method is not enough. You have to recognise pieces by their shape and work out where each piece needs to go back. On top of that come the problems typical of the 4x4, namely parity. People who have solved the 3x3 Ghost Cube often say the 4x4 version is harder. This puzzle takes a lot of patience. Speedcubing doesn't matter here.

How it turns

There are no magnets or adjustments typical of speed cubes. Buyers point out a few things:

• Size: approx. 93 mm per side, so it's a large, heavy puzzle. When the shape is heavily scrambled, it's harder to hold, especially in smaller hands.
• You need to align the layers carefully before each turn. If you don't, the cube locks up easily.
• Because of the hand finishing, quality may vary slightly between individual units.

It's best to turn calmly and with control. This cube is not designed for fast turning.

Who is it for?

For people who have already solved a regular 4x4 and a few shape mods, e.g. the Mirror Cube or the 3x3 Ghost Cube, and are looking for something much more difficult. It's also a great collector's item, as there are few mass-produced ghost cubes in this size. For your first shape mod, it's better to choose something simpler.
