Lee Pyraminx No.2 looks like a pyraminx, but it solves completely differently. It's a tetrahedron-shaped shape mod with irregular cuts. Every turn changes the shape, so once scrambled, the pyramid turns into a figure that's hard to describe. Other shops also sell this puzzle as Lee Pyraminx II. It was 3D printed by Lee.

A pyraminx with a skewb mechanism

Inside, there's no classic pyraminx mechanism. It uses a skewb mechanism, so the puzzle turns along the same axes as a skewb, not like a regular pyraminx. It has only 14 pieces, the same as a skewb: 8 corners and 6 centers. Don't let that number fool you, though. The pieces have different shapes, and some of them are hard to tell apart. The biggest challenge is recognizing the pieces and working out their orientation.

The puzzle behaves like a ghost cube. While solving, the turning planes aren't always visible right away. Sometimes you need to shift a layer slightly to find the next cut line. Knowing a skewb method will help you understand the moves, but because of the unusual shape you'll still have to do a lot of figuring out.

Who is it for?

It's a great choice for collectors of unusual puzzles and for those who can already solve a skewb and a pyraminx and are now looking for something that takes thinking rather than fast fingers. This model isn't suitable for speedcubing. You won't get the stability, corner cutting or high TPS of competition cubes. If you're looking for a pyraminx to break records, choose a classic magnetic model. No.2 will also be too difficult as a child's first puzzle.
