The Lee Three-Axis Pyramid Cube is a pyramid-shaped shape-shifting puzzle. It has three fixed axes, three floating axes and 6 visible pieces that turn by 180 degrees. Its solving logic resembles a Floppy Cube, but the changing shape makes it easy to get lost.
An unusual puzzle from Lee. On the outside it looks like a pyramid, but it works completely differently from a classic Pyraminx. The Lee Three-Axis Pyramid Cube is a shape-shifting puzzle with three axes of rotation. After a few moves it no longer looks like a pyramid, and it only gets that shape back once it is solved. The version on sale is black and measures approx. 60 mm.
Only 6 pieces are visible from the outside, and every move is a 180-degree turn. The mechanism has three fixed axes and three "floating" axes that move together with the pieces. That's why the puzzle looks different after every move. There aren't many possible moves, but the changing shape can be really confusing.
In terms of logic, the solution is closer to a Floppy Cube (1x3x3) or a simple cuboid than to a Pyraminx. You don't need to know any long algorithms. The whole challenge is not getting lost in the changing shape and understanding which pieces actually swap places. If you know the Floppy Cube, you'll usually get the idea quickly. Everyone else will need to experiment for a while.
This is a puzzle for collecting and for fun, not for speedcubing, so there's no point judging it by TPS or corner cutting. What matters is the clever mechanism and the way the shape changes in your hands.
Mainly for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles and already has the classic shapes. The solution isn't complicated, so it makes a great gift for someone who solves the 3x3 and wants to try something different without reaching for a very difficult puzzle. For a child who is just starting out, the shape-shifting may be more confusing at first than a regular cube, even though the principle itself is simple.
