MF8 12-Axis Big Dipper is a large puzzle from mf8's "sun puzzles" series. The same family includes the Sunminx, Heaven's Eyes and The Cullinan. Despite the word "cube" in its name, the Big Dipper looks nothing like a classic 3x3 cube. It turns around 12 axes, just like the Megaminx, and its shape is made up of 6 rhombuses and 6 trapezoids. We sell the version with a black body (Black) and stickers.

How the Big Dipper differs from Heaven's Eyes and the Cullinan

All three puzzles share a similar 12-axis mechanism and differ in the shape of their faces. Heaven's Eyes has 12 rhombuses. The Big Dipper combines 6 rhombuses with 6 trapezoids. The Cullinan has 2 pentagons and 10 trapezoids. Because they are built so similarly, these three models are most often bought together as a set for a collection.

How it solves

The Big Dipper is a puzzle for experienced solvers who enjoy unusual twisty puzzles. It is not suitable for speedcubing. The cuts are deep, and knowing a Megaminx method only helps partly, so expect long, unhurried solves and finding algorithms on your own. Users report that the mechanism is noticeably tight out of the box, and popping can happen if you turn too hard. Reassembling a puzzle with this many pieces after it pops apart takes quite a while, so it's better to turn it gently and not force layers that resist.
