MF8 Ball Multi Dodecahedron is a spherical puzzle from the Megaminx family. It has an inner dodecahedron and extra rotating ring-shaped layers. It is a difficult puzzle for people who already know the Megaminx. Primary version made of coloured plastic.
MF8 Ball Multi Dodecahedron is a puzzle for people who already know the Megaminx and are looking for something harder. It has a spherical shape. Inside, there is a dodecahedron that works like a Megaminx, and around it are extra movable layers in the form of rings. The version we sell is Primary, meaning it is made of coloured plastic.
On a regular Megaminx, you turn the faces of a dodecahedron. Here, outer rings have been added on top of the same structure, and they also turn and scramble the pieces. Every move shifts more pieces than on a Megaminx, and the solving methods you already know will only get you part of the way. The spherical shape also makes it harder to see at a glance where one face ends and the next begins. This is not a cube for setting times. What counts is understanding the mechanism, not TPS. Customers who have solved it describe it as a challenging puzzle that takes many hours.
MF8 makes several puzzles in the Multi Dodecahedron series. They include a version with the classic dodecahedron shape, the Skewby Multi Dodecahedron and the Crystal Dreidel. The Ball version has rounded shapes. This makes it sit comfortably in your hand, with no sharp corners for your fingers to catch on. The rounding does not change how the puzzle works, but it does change its look and the way you hold it. The spherical form also looks great on a collector's shelf.
For cubers who solve the Megaminx and want to test themselves on an unusual puzzle from the Minx family. It is also a good fit for collectors of lesser-known MF8 designs. It is a poor choice as a first puzzle, including for a child. Without knowing the Megaminx and the basics of solving puzzles of other shapes, it is easy to get discouraged. It is better to start with a classic Megaminx.
