MF8 Crazy Crystal Dodecahedron

MF8 Crazy Crystal Dodecahedron is a twelve-sided Crazy-type puzzle based on the Pyraminx Crystal. In the manufacturer's catalogues and in shops abroad you may also find it as Crazy Pyraminx Crystal or Crazy Crystal Megaminx (code MF81216). Its shape resembles a Megaminx, but the cuts are deeper: a single face turn moves a much larger part of the puzzle than on a Megaminx. Each face has a circular piece, which is what makes this the Crazy version. We offer it with a black body.

What makes it a Crazy version

A regular Pyraminx Crystal has no centers. In the Crazy version, an extra circle made up of smaller pieces appears in the middle of each face. When you turn a face, the circle can either stay in place or turn together with it. You can set this separately for each circle, so one puzzle gives you several solving variants. Out of the box, none of the circles turn with their faces. This setting is easier to start with, but other configurations make it noticeably harder.

The design described here is the standard version. MF8 also offers the Multi Crazy Pyraminx Crystal, in which the circles are built differently. That is a separate product.

Who is it for?

This is a collector's puzzle. It is not an official WCA event and has no magnets, so it is not something you buy for fast times. It will give the most to people who already solve the Megaminx or Pyraminx Crystal and want a new challenge. A good part of the method overlaps with those puzzles, while the circles require their own approach. For your first dodecahedron-shaped puzzle, a regular Megaminx is a better choice.
