The MF8 Dayan Crazy 2x2x2 Cube looks like an ordinary 2x2 cube with a circle on each face, but it solves in a completely different way. It belongs to the Crazy series, where the round cut-outs turn together with the layer on some faces and stay in place on others. This page describes the 000 version in Black, with a black body.

How the Crazy 2x2x2 works

On a classic 2x2 cube you only have to solve the corners. Here you also need to place the round pieces in the centres of the faces. The version code tells you how the circles behave. In the 000 variant, three faces are marked with the digit 0, and their circles work differently from the rest. Because of this, familiar 2x2 algorithms stop working the usual way, and every solve means thinking through your moves. In terms of solving method, the puzzle is closer to a 3x3 cube than to a 2x2.

How it turns

This is not a speed cube, and it shouldn't be compared with 2x2 speedcubing cubes. It has no magnets, and the mechanism is fairly stiff and not as smooth as on speed cubes. Users report that the circles on the faces marked 0 may be a bit loose. When turning, you also need to keep the layers well aligned, otherwise catching happens easily. Lubing it and giving the mechanism some time to break in can help. Don't force the corners, as it's easy to break them that way on 2x2 cubes.

Versions 000, 001 and 011

The Crazy 2x2x2 comes in several versions that differ in the number of faces marked with a zero. Version 000 has three such faces, while versions 001 and 011 have fewer. Each version requires a different solving approach, so some people collect the whole set.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve 2x2 and 3x3 cubes and want a puzzle that makes them think. It's a good cube for collectors or as something unusual next to your speed cubes. For a child's first cube, a regular 2x2 or 3x3 is a better choice.
