MF8 Fish Skewb, also known as Skewskewb, is a shape mod of the classic Skewb by mf8. The mechanism and the way it turns are the same as on a regular Skewb, but the pieces have irregular shapes. After a few moves the puzzle loses its cube shape, much like a ghost cube. Even if you can solve a Skewb with no trouble, you will have to learn to recognize the pieces all over again.

How it differs from a regular Skewb

On a standard Skewb the centers have no orientation. If the color matches the face, the piece is in the right place. On the Fish Skewb every piece has a set orientation, and the puzzle counts as solved only when it returns to its original shape. Matching the colors is not enough: you also have to watch how each piece is rotated. When scrambled, the puzzle takes on some quite unusual shapes, which is the main reason many people buy it.

How it turns

This is a puzzle for fun and for your collection, not a cube for setting times. According to user reviews, it is fairly tight out of the box and can feel a little gritty, and catching can happen when you turn faster. It turns somewhat better once broken in, but don't expect the smoothness of a good speedcubing Skewb. A few users also mention centers popping out.
