The MF8 More Madness is an Oskar van Deventer design that only resembles a Pyraminx from the top. In reality, it's a jumbling-only triangular dipyramid in which every move changes the shape and shifts the axes of rotation. It's a challenging puzzle for collectors that turns well straight out of the box.
From the top, the MF8 More Madness looks like a Pyraminx, but that's all it has in common with one. The bottom is a mirror image of the top, so the whole puzzle is shaped like a flattened double pyramid. It was designed by Oskar van Deventer and brought to mass production by MF8. This is a jumbling-only puzzle: every move changes its shape, and there are no regular, repeatable moves at all.
The mechanism is based on a triangular dipyramid. This geometry was discovered by Bram Cohen, and it is the simplest configuration in which the moves jumble. In practice, this means that after you turn a face, the pieces don't return to fixed positions. They shift relative to each other, and the axes of rotation move along with them. Some moves become blocked, so the puzzle behaves like a bandaged puzzle. Just getting it back to its original shape feels like finding your way through a maze, and only then do you get to solve the colors.
More Madness is a deeper-cut version of the earlier Meteor Madness. Deeper cuts mean more piece shifting and a harder solve.
The puzzle turns well straight out of the box, with no break-in needed. It's made of ABS plastic and is noticeably larger than a typical cube, which makes it easier to grip given this geometry.
For collectors and anyone who has already solved plenty of shape-shifting and bandaged puzzles and now wants to try jumbling. It's not a good choice as your first step into the world of unusual puzzles: the difficulty is high, and knowing the Pyraminx won't help you at all here. It's also not a speedcubing puzzle or a WCA event. Thanks to its unusual shape, More Madness stands out in any collection and looks great on display on a shelf.
