The MF8 Sunminx is a dodecahedron from the Sun Puzzles family. The faces turn in 36° steps, so after a half turn the puzzle changes shape, and the split edges get scrambled too. It is a difficult collector's puzzle with a black body and ORACAL stickers.
When solved, the MF8 Sunminx looks like a Megaminx with extra cuts, similar to a Coronaminx. This dodecahedron puzzle has a completely different mechanism, though. Each of the 12 faces can be turned not only by 72°, as on a Megaminx, but also by 36°, which is half of a normal step. After such a turn, you can rotate the neighbouring faces and the puzzle starts to change shape. It belongs to MF8's Sun Puzzles family, the same one as the Sun Cube. It was designed by Mr. Fok and released in 2018.
The 36° turns are so-called jumbling moves. The edges are split into two parts and get scrambled too, and some moves are blocked at any given moment because they depend on the current position of the pieces. Users mention hidden bandaging and say that even people with large puzzle collections need a lot of time for the Sunminx. There are very few guides, so you will largely have to work out a solving method on your own.
The Sunminx is not a speedsolving puzzle. According to buyers, the body is solid, while the turning is stiff and rather slow. The smallest pieces in the middle of the faces tend to catch, so turn calmly and align the layers carefully. With fast, aggressive turning, catching happens regularly. The stickers are small, so it is better not to pick at them with your fingernails.
For collectors and people who have already mastered the Megaminx and a few shape mods and are now looking for a long, challenging project. The MF8 Sunminx is not a good gift for a beginner or a child, as it is easy to get discouraged. The manufacturer states that the puzzle contains small parts and is not intended for children under 7 years of age.
MF8 used the same mechanism in puzzles of other shapes: Heaven's Eyes, Big Dipper and Cullinan.
