MoFangGe Thunderclap v3 3x3x3

MoFangGe Thunderclap V3 3x3x3

MoFangGe Thunderclap V3 3x3x3 is the third cube in the Thunderclap series from QiYi MoFangGe, released in 2019. It shares little more than the name with the earlier Thunderclaps, because the mechanism was redesigned from scratch. This version is non-magnetic: the layers have no magnets to help them settle into place. It's an affordable speed cube that lets you find out what solving on a regular 3x3 without magnets feels like.

What's new in V3

• New anti-pop mechanism. The manufacturer has improved the protection against popping, meaning pieces falling out during fast turning.
• Capped design. The edges and corners have caps. This hides the seams on the outside and reduces friction between the pieces.
• Guide tracks on the pieces. The internals have shaped tracks that reduce friction when turning.
• Internals made of new plastic. All internal pieces are made of virgin, non-recycled plastic.
• Screw adjustment. Tension is set the classic way, by tightening or loosening the screws in the core.

Non-magnetic version or Thunderclap V3 M?

Without magnets, the cube is noticeably less stable than the magnetic Thunderclap V3 M. The layers overshoot more easily and don't stop in line on their own, so you need to control your turns more precisely. For most people who want to solve for time, we recommend the magnetic version. The construction is the same in both versions, and the magnets make control much easier during faster turning.

Who is it for?

The magnet-free version is a good fit if you prefer a looser, non-magnetic feel, and it also works well as a cheap backup cube or for learning algorithms. It's also suitable for your first steps in speedcubing if you want to keep costs low. The Thunderclap V3 is legal for official competitions.
