Monster Go 3x3x3 Magnetic

Monster Go 3x3x3 Magnetic

Monster Go is GAN's budget sub-brand, aimed mainly at beginners and kids. The Monster Go 3x3x3 Magnetic is the magnetic version of the basic 3x3 cube from this series. It was released in 2020 and is one of the most affordable ways to start with a magnetic cube instead of a regular, non-magnetic one. It measures 56 mm, comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme and meets the requirements for official competitions.

How it turns

The magnets are of medium strength. The layers clearly "snap" into place, but you don't have to push them hard. The cube is quite stable and more controllable than very fast, so it is forgiving of the uneven turns everyone makes at the beginning. The inside of the pieces has the honeycomb structure typical of GAN, which helps spread the lube evenly.

Opinions among advanced cubers are mixed. Out of the box, the cube can be set up quite tight, and some people describe its feel as slightly sandy. Loosening the tension and lubing it noticeably improve its speed and smoothness. If you have already owned a few speedcubes and are looking for something fast for high TPS, you should probably choose a more expensive model.

Adjustment

The cube uses the GES nut system known from GAN models. You adjust the tension by hand, without a tool and without unscrewing anything with a screwdriver. The cube has no MagLev and no magnets in the core, as these are rare in this price range.

Who is it for?

It's a good cube for someone who is learning to solve or switching from a regular cube to their first magnetic one. It also makes a great gift for a child. The set includes solving instructions and access to a beginner tutorial in the Cube Station app, so you can get started without searching for guides. Monster Go is also available in a non-magnetic version. However, the magnetic version is more stable and makes precise turning easier.
