Monster Go is GAN's budget line of cubes, designed mainly for beginners. Monster Go Standard 3x3 V3 is the third generation of the basic 3x3 cube in this series, in the Standard version, which means no magnets. It has the classic 56 mm size and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

How it turns

The inner surfaces of the pieces have a honeycomb structure known from GAN cubes. It helps spread the lube evenly and gives smoother turning. The cube comes factory-lubed. Users praise it for a surprisingly good feeling of speed for this price range and a comfortable grip. They rate its stability as average.

Without magnets, the layers don't "snap" into place on their own. When turning fast, lockups are more likely if a layer isn't turned all the way. For someone who is just learning the layer-by-layer method, this doesn't matter much, and it also teaches you to turn more precisely.

Adjustment

Tension is set with a screw. There is no separate compression adjustment, so customization options are more limited than in more expensive GAN models. For learning and casual solving, this is more than enough.

Standard or magnetic version?

Monster Go V3 is also available in a magnetic version. Magnets give clearer layer alignment and more stable behavior during faster solving. If you want to start timing your solves, you will probably soon appreciate the magnetic version. The Standard version is a good choice when the cube is simply meant for learning to solve and having fun, or when you prefer a classic, non-magnetic feel.

Who is it for?

As a first 3x3 cube for a child or an adult who wants to learn to solve but doesn't want to invest in a speed cube right away. They will get much more out of it than out of a typical toy cube. A speedcuber looking for a cube for timed practice should go for the magnetic model.
