MoYu 3x3x3 Wind Mirror

MoYu 3x3x3 Wind Mirror (also known as WindMirror) combines two well-known 3x3 shape mods: the windmill and the mirror. It is based on the Windmill Cube, with layers of different thickness, just like in a mirror cube. All faces are the same colour. Once scrambled, the cube loses its cubic shape and turns into a solid with uneven protrusions. This model comes from the MoYu Cubing Classroom (MoFang JiaoShi) series and was released in 2017.

How to solve the Wind Mirror

Inside, it uses a standard 3x3 mechanism, so you solve it with the same moves as a classic cube. Colours won't help you, because the whole cube is a single colour. You have to recognise the pieces by their shape and height, which takes some getting used to if you have only solved standard 3x3 cubes before. Despite its unusual look, if you know any 3x3 method, the cube shouldn't give you much trouble. It is not suitable as your very first cube. It works better as your next puzzle once you have mastered the classic cube.

The Wind Mirror has no magnets. Reviews often mention smooth turning, good corner cutting for a shape mod and little tendency to pop. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws. On a cube that changes shape this much, this helps you find the right balance between smoothness and stability.

Colour versions

The body is black and the faces are covered with metallic stickers. Two variants are available:

• Black/silver, a black body with silver stickers,
• Black/golden, a black body with gold stickers.

Both versions have the same mechanism and differ only in the colour of the stickers.

Who is it for?

For those who can solve a 3x3 and are looking for a change from regular speedcubing. The Wind Mirror is also a great addition to a shape mod collection, next to the classic Mirror Cube or the Windmill. It is not a WCA event, so this cube is not meant for competition training. It is a puzzle to solve for fun and to practise your spatial awareness.
