MoYu 3x3x3 Windmill Cube

MoYu Windmill Cube 3x3 is a shape mod built on a regular 3x3 cube. It comes from the Cubing Classroom (MoFangJiaoShi) series, MoYu's budget line. When solved, it is a cube with 56 mm sides, but the layers are cut at an angle. After a few moves it turns into a sharp, irregular shape that resembles a windmill. It is closely related to the Fisher Cube, only with a slightly shifted axis, so you could call it a mod of a mod. This version is stickerless in bright colours.

How to solve the Windmill Cube

You solve it just like a classic 3x3. If you know any 3x3 method, you don't need to learn any new algorithms. The challenge lies elsewhere. Once scrambled, the pieces have different shapes, so you need to learn to recognise which piece is an edge and which is a corner, and make sure the puzzle returns to its cube shape. That's why it's a great first shape mod for anyone who can already solve a 3x3.

Mechanism and tension adjustment

The mechanism comes from the MF3 3x3 cube from the same series, not from a typical toy puzzle mechanism. The corners, edges and internal parts have rounded openings, which gives the cube decent corner cutting. Turning is smooth, and lockups are rare. The pieces have internal "feet" that hold the cube together and protect it from popping. Tension is adjusted with screws under the centres, so you can set the cube looser or tighter. The cube has no magnets. It's a puzzle for fun and for collecting, not for breaking records, and that's what you should expect from it.

For collectors and for anyone who can solve a 3x3 and wants to try their first mod. It also makes a great gift for a child who can already handle a classic cube. The Windmill Cube is not a WCA event, so you can't use it at official competitions.
