MoYu CH RS3M MagLev 2021 Enhanced: the RS3M with a magnetic core

This version of the popular RS3M 2021 MagLev has been modified by Cubers' Home, hence the CH in the name. The MoYu CH RS3M MagLev 2021 Enhanced is a 3x3 cube with the MagLev system. In addition to the standard magnets in the edges and corners, it has extra magnets in the core and in the corner feet. The RS3M was so popular that a separate DIY kit was released for adding core magnets yourself. Here, they come factory-installed.

How it turns

The regular RS3M 2021 MagLev uses pairs of repelling magnets instead of springs. This means there is no spring friction or spring noise, and the cube is very fast straight out of the box. Reviewers say that for many people it is actually too fast and hard to control. The magnets between the core and the corners pull the corners towards the centre, so they work in a different direction than the edge magnets. This makes the magnetic feel more even, and the layers are more inclined to stay in place. The cube is still fast, but it gives you more stability and control than the version without a magnetic core.

Adjustment and mechanism

The pieces and the core body are the same as in the RS3M 2020. Tension is set with screws, and the strength of the MagLev system (the equivalent of compression) can be adjusted in 9 levels. The surface is matte (frosted).

Which RS3M version should you choose?

The RS3M 2020 uses springs and has the most classic feel. The RS3M 2021 MagLev is faster and quieter, but less forgiving. The CH Enhanced version makes sense if you like the speed of the MagLev but miss some control at higher TPS. If you prefer light-turning cubes with weaker magnets, the standard MagLev may be the better choice for you.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants an affordable, fast magnetic cube with MagLev and core magnets and doesn't need a flagship. Beginners can handle it too. For a first cube, though, it's worth setting a tighter tension, because on loose settings the cube easily overshoots layers. The cube is allowed in official competitions.
